I started working on Alphabet a few months ago. I wanted to do something that would allow me to go graphical and eccentric so I started this project in which I am building letters with different elements. As a topic, I chose to represent a writer that I like with each letter. The first letter, the A, represents Isaac Asimov.
To build the letter I used Maya, Arnold with AlShaders, Substance Designer, Substance Painter and Nuke for the little compositing I had done to the render. It is being the first time I used Cryptomatte and it has proven to be awesome. I am looking forward to see this natively implemented in Arnold 5.1.
I did not work on many iterations of the 3D model as I normally work on a concept in paper before. I got rid of a smoke trail that was emitting out of the rocket to replace it with the golden path of the final version.
One of the funniest parts of this project is working on the planet textures, which I created by using marbles as a reference.
